Electrochemical sensing of acetaminophen using nanocomposites comprised of cobalt phthalocyanines and multiwalled carbon nanotubes

Herein, we report the fabrication of multiwalled carbon nanotube (MWCNT) conjugates of cobalt phthalocyanines (CoPcs) with peripherally substituted Flavone (flay) or benzoxazole (bo) groups. The CoPc-X-f-MWCNT (X = flay or bo) conjugates were characterized by Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM) and Infrared (IR) spectroscopy. The respective nanocomposite materials were drop-casted onto the surfaces of glassy carbon electrodes (GCEs) and the resultant chemically modified electrodes (CMEs) were used as electrocatalytic detectors for acetaminophen. Under optimized conditions, the peak currents for CoPc-flay-f-MWCNTs- and CoPc-bo-f-MWCNTs- GCEs were linear in wide acetaminophen concentration ranges of 1-1000 mu M and 15-1000 mu M, respectively. Electron transfer kinetics of the CMEs were superior than the bare electrode where diffusion- and convection-controlled electrocatalytic constants in the order of 10(2) and 10(4) M-1 s(-1) were obtained for both the CMEs. The CMEs showed good selectivity for APAP when tested in the presence of other emerging water pollutants. Electrochemical impedance spectroscopic experiments provided an insight into the mechanism of electrocatalysis occurring at the interfaces of the CMEs. (C) 2019 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Heteroleptic [Cu(NN)P-2](+)-type cuprous complexes and their structural modulation on phosphorescent color: Synthesis, structural characterization, properties, and theoretical calculations

Four new heteroleptic [Cu(NN)P-2](+)-type cuprous complexes-1-TPP, 2-POP, 3-Xantphos, and 4-DPPF-were designed and synthesized using a diimine ligand 2-(2 ‘-pyridyl)benzoxazole (2-PBO) and different phosphine ligands (TPP, triphenylphosphine; POP, bis[2-(diphenylphosphino)phenyl]ether; Xantphos, 4,5-bis(diphenylphosphino)-9,9-dimethylxanthene; DPPF, 1,1 ‘-bis(diphenylphosphino)-ferrocene). All complexes were characterized using single-crystal X-ray diffraction, spectroscopic analysis (infrared, UV-Vis.), elemental analysis, and photoluminescence (PL). Single-crystal X-ray diffraction revealed complexes 1-4 as isolated cation complex structures with a tetrahedral CuN2P2 coordination geometry and diverse P-Cu-P angles. Their UV-Vis. absorption spectra exhibited a blue-shift sequence in wavelength with an enlarged P-Cu-P angle from 4 to 2 then to 3 and then to 1. The PL emission peaks of 1-3 also exhibited a similar blue-shift sequence (2 -> 3 -> 1). Their PL lifetime in microseconds (7.5, 5.1, and 4.7 mu s for 1, 2, and 3, respectively) indicated that their PL behavior represents phosphorescence. Time-dependent density functional theory (TD-DFT) calculation and wavefunction analysis revealed that S-1 and T-1 states of 1-3 should be assigned as metal-ligand and ligand-ligand charge-transfer (ML + L’L)CT states. Their UV-Vis. absorption and phosphorescence should be attributed to the charge transfer from the P-Cu-P segment to the 2-PBO ligand. Therefore, as the P-Cu-P angle increased (lower HOMO), the energy of S-1 and T-1 states also increased, following the change of PL color.

Cerium(iii) complexes with azolyl-substituted thiophenolate ligands: synthesis, structure and red luminescence

In order to obtain molecular Ce(iii) complexes which emit red light by f-d transitions the azolyl-substituted thiophenolates were used as the ligands. The thiophenolate Ce(iii) complexes were synthesized by the reaction of Ce[N(SiMe3)(2)](3) with respective thiophenols 2-(2 ‘-mercaptophenyl)benzimidazole (H(NSN)), 2-(2 ‘-mercaptophenyl)benzoxazole (H(OSN)) and 2-(2 ‘-mercaptophenyl)benzothiazole (H(SSN)) in DME media. The structures of the benzimidazolate (Ce(NSN)(3)(DME)) and benzothiazolate (Ce(SSN)(3)(DME)) derivatives were determined by X-ray analysis which revealed that the cerium ion in the molecules is coordinated by one DME and three anionic thiophenolate ligands. The lanthanum complex La(OSN)(3)(DME) has been synthesized similarly and structurally characterized. It was found that the solids of Ce(SSN)(3)(DME) and Ce(OSN)(3)(DME) exhibit a broad band photoluminescence peaking at 620 nm which disappears upon solvatation. With an example of OSN derivatives it was proposed that this behaviour is caused by the blue shift of the f-d transition of Ce3+ ions.

Herein we report the synthesis of a series of amino acid-derived triazoles by an organocatalytic cycloaddition reaction between azides and carbonyl compounds, catalyzed by a simple amine.These compounds present absorption maxima located in the UV-B ascribed to fully spin and symmetry allowed electronic transitions and a main fluorescence emission in the UV-A (similar to 380 nm) with a relatively large Stokes shift (5700 cm(-1)). No significant solvatochromism was observed in both ground and excited states. Unexpectedly, the benzoxazole derivatives presented much higher fluorescence quantum yield values (40-80%) of compared to the sulfur analogues (3-6%). In addition, the DNA binding assays indicated that these compounds presented strong interaction with CT-DNA, which could be attributed to pi-stacking and intermolecular hydrogen-bonding. The interaction of the benzazoles with bovine serum albumin (BSA) was also investigated, where a suppression mechanism was observed. Synthesis and properties of benzoxazole-based liquid crystals containing ethynyl group

Series of heterocyclic compounds containing ethynyl group, 2-[4-[2-[4-(alkoxy)phenyl]ethynyl]phenyl] -benzoxazole derivatives (nPEPBx), are prepared and investigated. They display enantiotropic nematic and smectic mesophases with large mesophase ranges of 30-133 degrees C (heating) and 31-141 degrees C (cooling). Compared with reference analogues without ethynyl group, the compounds nPEPBx roughly give lower melting points and much higher nematic mesophase stability because of the introduction of triple carbon-carbon bond. Meanwhile, they show much higher birefringence (Delta n, 0.50-0.65 and 0.55-0.68 for experimental and calculated values with density functional theory (DFT), respectively) than common tolane-based liquid crystals, which indicates that the introduction of benzoxazole unit is an effective method to enhance Delta n values of the rod-like molecule. It is concluded that nPEPBx has a potential application in liquid crystal mixture as a dopant to enhance the performance of the host mixture.

Design, synthesis and evaluation of anticancer activity of novel 2-thioxoimidazolidin-4-one derivatives bearing pyrazole, triazole and benzoxazole moieties

A novel series of substituted 2-thiohydantoin incorporated with benzoimidazole, pyrazole, triazole and/or benzoxazole moieties has been synthesized using (E)-3-[1-(4-bromophenyl) ethylideneamino]-2-thioxoimidazolidin-4-one 1 as the key starting material. Design, synthesis and in vitro evaluation of 6-amide-2-aryl benzoxazole/benzimidazole derivatives against tumor cells by inhibiting VEGFR-2 kinase

Herein, we have carried out a structural optimization campaign to discover the novel anti-tumor agents with our previously screened YQY-26 as the hit compound. A library of thirty-seven 6-amide-2-aryl benzoxazole/benzimidazole derivatives has been designed and synthesized based on the highly conserved active site of VEGFR-2. Several title compounds exhibited selective inhibitory activities against VEGFR-2 than EGFR kinases, which also displayed selective anti-proliferation potency against the HUVEC and HepG2 than the A549 and MDA-MB-231 cancer cell lines. The newly synthesized compounds were evaluated for anti-angiogenesis capability by chick chorioallantoic membrane (CAM) assay. Among them, compounds 9d showed the most potent anti-angiogenesis ability (79% inhibition at 10 nM/eggs), the efficient cytotoxic activities (in vitro against the HUVEC and HepG2 cell lines with IC50 values of 1.47 and 2.57 mu M, respectively), and excellent VEGFR-2 kinase inhibition (IC50 = 0.051 mu M). The molecular docking analysis revealed that compound 9d is a Type 11 inhibitor of VEGFR-2 kinase. These results indicated that the 6-amide-2-arylbenzoxazole and 6-amide-2-aryl benzimidazole derivatives are promising inhibitors of VEGFR-2 kinase for the potential treatment of anti-angiogenesis. Facile Access to 2-Substituted Benzoxazoles Using Sawdust Supported N-Heterocyclic Carbene-Ni Complex via C-H Activation

Tc-99m-labeled Small Molecules for Diagnosis of Alzheimer’s Disease: Past, Recent and Future Perspectives

Background: Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is an age-related progressive neurodegenerative disease. Its prominent hallmarks are extracellular deposition of beta-amyloids (amyloid plaques), intracellular neurofibrillary tangles (NTFs), neurodegeneration and finally loss of cognitive function. Hence, AD diagnosis in the early stage and monitoring of the disease are of great importance. Methods: In this review article, we have reviewed recent efforts for design, synthesis and evaluation of Tc-99m labeled small molecule for AD imaging purposes. Results: These small molecules include derivatives of Congo red, benzothiazole, benzofuran, benzoxazole, naphthalene, biphenyl, chalcone, flavone, aurone, stilbene, curcumin, dibenzylideneacetone, quinoxaline, etc. The different aspects of Tc-99m-labeled small molecules including chemical structure, their affinity toward amyloid plaques, BBB permeation and in vivo/vitro stability will be discussed. Conclusion: The fmdings of this review confirm the importance of Tc-99m-labeled small molecules for AD imaging. Future studies based on the pharmacophore of these designed compounds are needed for improvement of these molecules for clinical application.
