Efficiency of photocoloration process is more than one order of magnitude higher than the photobleaching quantum yield. Owing to the presence of a benzoxazole fragment ionochromic properties allow detecting presence of such metal cations as Co2+, Ni2+, Zn2+,Cu2+, Cd2+. Exemplified by Ni2+, Zn2+ ionochromic effect has been quantitatively described. Combination of photochromism and ionochromism in the obtained spiropyrans afford an opportunity to create metal ion chemosensor with photodriven recognition function.
