The prepared compounds were characterized using physico-chemical and spectroscopic methods such as melting point, infrared spectroscopy (IR) and the proton nuclear magnetic resonance (H-1-NMR). Thereafter, some of the compounds were selected for in vitro antibacterial activity and one of these compounds showed an inhibition effect against gram positive only which is very important because it is considered as specific antibacterial drug.

Detailed pictures of the excited-state intramolecular proton transfer (ESIPT) of 2,5-bis(2′-benzoxazolyl)hydroquinone (BHQ) and its water cluster have been investigated by dynamics simulations on the first lowest excited energy using time-dependent density functional theory (TD-DFT). We focused on the structural, photophysical and dynamic properties of BHQin the absence and presence of water molecules through intermolecular hydrogen bonds (interHBs). Our dynamics simulations reveal three possible mechanisms of the ESIPT processes: i) no proton transfer (No PT); ii) single PT (SPT); and iii) double PT (DPT), that could take place within the PT time of 160 fs via intrinsic intramolecular hydrogen bonds (intraHBs). The ESIPT mechanism of isolated BHQ elucidates that back PT is likely to be found at 64% rather than the SPT (32%) and DPT (4%), which is in good agreement with the experiments of dual fluorescence from di-enol and mono-keto emissions. Notably, the results from BHQ with water (BHQ-(H20)2) reveal that the participation of water might produce a remarkable effect on promoting the SPT process up to 60% and DPI up to 7 times when compared to conditions of no water. The simulated probability of PT is well related to possible PT mechanisms regarding different tautomers in the fluorescence spectra found in previous experiments. The existence of di-keto tautomer arose from the DM’ of BHQ and its water cluster and was not observed in the UV/Vis spectrum. (C) 2019 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

We report the preparation of polybenzoxazole (PBO) fiber from polyhydroxyamide (PHA) precursor fiber which is free from strong acid such as polyphosphoric acid. We prepared the PHA fibers with different spin-draw ratios (SDRs) using a wet-spinning method and the PBO fibers with an SDR of 3.5 (SDR-3.5 PBO fibers) were prepared by various heat-treatment temperatures, and investigated their morphology, crystalline structure, and mechanical properties. The simultaneous thermogravimetric analysis-mass spectrometry (STA-MS) and field-emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM) results confirmed that the diameter of the SDR-3.5 PBO fiber was much smaller than that of the SDR-3.5 PHA fiber, due to the release of water during the thermal cyclization reaction which forms the PBO structure. The wide-angle Xray diffraction (WAXD) pattern of the SDR-3.5 PBO fiber heat-treated at 350 A degrees C (SDR-3.5 PBO 350 fiber) showed two peaks, at 2 theta=14.83 A degrees and 24.38 A degrees, and the diffraction angles dropped with increasing heat-treatment temperature. In addition, the initial modulus and tensile strength of the SDR-3.5 PBO fiber heat-treated at 550 A degrees C (SDR-3.5 PBO 550 fiber) were found to be 19.1 GPa and 449.2 MPa, which were much higher than those of the SDR-3.5 PHA fiber, 9.3 GPa and 227.0 MPa, respectively.

The structure of AjiA1 in the apo form also reveals crucial conformational changes that occur during the catalytic cycle of this enzyme which have not been described for any other AFE member. The design of reusable high-performance heterogeneous catalysts via the immobilization of chemical and biochemical species on magnetic nanoparticles increases the efficiency of catalytic systems by facilitating easy, fast, and clean separation processes. Optimal reaction conditions consisted of a citrate buffer (10mM, pH4.5) at 40 degrees C for an incubation time of 10 h and a heterogeneous catalyst containing immobilized laccase (80 mg, 100 U) and immobilized 2,2,6,6-tetramethylpiperidine-1-oxyl (TEMPO) (40 mg, 2 mol%). The catalyst retained more than 85% of its initial activity after 10 runs. In addition to the potential for reuse without significant losses in performance, eco-friendly attributes of this catalytic system include its high catalytic activity and the ease with which it can be recovered from the reaction mixture using an external magnet.

A structural class of 2-aminobenzoxazole derivatives possessing biphenyltetrazole was discovered to be potent human ChemR23 inhibitors. We initially tried to improve the potency of compound 1, which was found through in-house screening using the human plasmacytoid dendritic cell (pDC)-like cell line CAL-1. The antagonistic effect of the compounds was based on the induction of ChemR23 internalization. In addition, we observed that compound 31, which contained an amide moiety on benzoxazole, inhibited chemotaxis of CAL-1 cells induced by chemerin in vitro. These results suggest that our ChemR23 inhibitors are attractive compounds for the treatment of pDC-related autoimmune diseases, such as systemic lupus erythematosus and psoriasis.

Carbazoles and hydrazone-bridged thiazole-pyrrole derivatives are known to exhibit a wide range of biological activities including antimicrobial activity. This work is a further extension of their biological activities that identifies a total of 13 of these derivatives as new alpha-glucosidase inhibitors. The carbazole derivatives exhibited noncompetitive inhibition of the enzyme with the inhibitor possessing the 2-benzoimidazole substitution being the most potent in the series. Compounds possessing the 2-benzothiazole, 2-benzoxazole and quinoline groups were also found to be promising for enzyme inhibition. The hydrazone-bridged thiazole-pyrrole derivatives showed competitive enzyme inhibition with a number of groups responsible for potent enzyme inhibition including 4-nitrophenyl, 4-bromophenyl, and 4-methoxyphenyl groups. Moreover, the hydrazone derivatives with unsubstituted pyrrole ring were found to be more favorable to alpha-glucosidase inhibition than the ones possessing the methyl-substituted ring. The current work may provide new structural and functional diversity to drug discovery of promising alpha-glucosidase inhibitors as anti-diabetic drugs.
