A novel series of benzylpyridinium-based benzoheterocycles (benzimidazole, benzoxazole or benzothiazole) were designed as potent acetylcholinesterase (AChE) and butyrylcholinesterase (BuChE) inhibitors. To explore the luminescence properties of silver complexes in the solid state, two Ag(I) complexes, [Ag(4-PBO)(2)(NO3)] {di[2-(4 ‘-pyridyl)-benzoxazole]silver(I) nitrate} (1) and [Ag-2(SPPh3)(4)](ClO4)(2) {[tetra(triphenylphosphine sulfide)disilver(I)] diperchlorate} (2) (4-PBO =2-(4 ‘-pyridyl)-benzoxazole, SPPh3 = triphenylphosphine sulfide), have been synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis, FT-IR and UV-Vis spectroscopy. Single-crystal X-ray diffraction revealed that 1 is three-coordinate by two nitrogen atoms from two 4-PBO ligands and an oxygen atom from the coordinated nitrate anion forming a triangular plane configuration. In 2, the SPPh3 ligands adopt a monodentate coordinated and monoatomic bridging mode to connect two Ag(I) ions, resulting in a three-coordinate symmetrical binuclear structure. In the solid state, the luminescence properties of the ligands 4-PBO, SPPh3 and their complexes were investigated. The results demonstrated that 1 results in the fluorescence quenching of aggregates due to the strong pi-pi stacking effect. The fluorescence enhancement of 2 may be attributed to the aggregation-induced emission (AIE) effect of restricted intramolecular rotations of the peripheral phenyl rings against the central core. In addition, cyclic voltammograms of 1 and 2 indicated an irreversible Ag+/Ag couple.

The Ir(III) complex displayed intense yellow photophosphorescence emission that manifested its potential for organic electroluminescence. Photo- and electroluminescent properties of the OLEDs fabricated on the basis of [Ir(ppy)(2)(TAPBO)] with doping concentration of Ir(ppy)(2)(TAPBO) varied from 3 to 20 wt% have been investigated. The OLED with 9 wt% Ir (ppy)(2)(TAPBO) exhibited maximum luminance of 9000 cdm(-2) at 180 mA/cm(-2) and had sufficiently low turn-on voltage of ca. 6 V.

A novel series of benzoxazole linked combretastatin derivatives (11a-11n) have been synthesized and confirmed by H-1 NMR, C-13 NMR, and Mass spectral analysis. The synthesized compounds (11a-11n) were screened for anticancer activity against three human cancer cell lines, Breast (MCF-7), Lung (A549), and Melanoma (A375). Most of the compounds exhibit moderate to potent anticancer activity. Among the compounds, 11g, 11h, 11l, 11m, and 11n showed more potent activity than the positive control Doxorubicin. In addition, compounds 11g, 11l, 11m, and 11n were carried out their molecular docking studies on EGFR receptor (PDB ID: 4hjo) and results indicated that 11g and 11l have strong binding interactions with the receptor. It was found that the binding energy calculations were in good agreement with the observed IC50 values.

Unsatisfied dielectric property and insufficient thermal stability are major obstacles for the commercialization of polyimide resins in the future ultralarge scale integration (ULSI) or radar-wave-transparent composite applications. The effects of TR-able codiamine on the processing ability of oligoimides, molecular packing and properties, including thermal stability, dielectric property and bonding ability to reinforcing fibers, for the resulting poly(imide-co-benzoxazole) (PI-co-PBOs) resins have been examined in detail. These thermally rearranged PI-co-PBO resins exhibit reduced dielectric constants of 2.56-3.4 at f = 0.1 GHz, lower than the cured PI with a dielectric constant of 3.55. Meanwhile, the 5 wt% weight loss temperature (T-d5) of the resultant resins increases from 455 degrees C for the cured PI to 491 degrees C for the PI-co-PBO-60 containing 60 mol% benzoxazole unit, and correspondingly, the tensile modulus of PI-co-PBO-60 reaches 2.47 GPa, which is 76% higher than that of the cured PI. These resultant PI-co-PBOs exhibit the combined excellent properties, indicating them a great potentials as the new low-dielectric constant polymer resins in microelectronic industries or advanced composites.

The photon to electron energy transfer from the dye (quercetin) to the semiconductor (TiO2) surface is analyzed based on intramolecular charge transfer. The results of the electron transfer studies on these newly designed dyes could be used to enhance the performance of resulting dye-sensitized solar cells.

This research included the preparation of 2-mercaptobenzoxazole (N1) by the reaction of ortho-aminophenol with carbon disulfide in an alcoholic potassium hydroxide solution. The 2-mercapto benzoxazole (N1) was then treated with hydrazine to obtain the 2-hydrazino benzoxazole (N2). A number of hydrazones (N3-N5) were prepared through the reaction of N2 with different benzaldehydes. The compound (N6) was also prepared whereby the ring closing of hydrazone (N3) using chloroacetylchloride, while the compound (N7) was prepared by treating 2-hydrazino benzoxazole with acetylacetone. When the compound (N1) was treated with formaldehyde, it afforded the compound (N8). Also, the N9 was obtained from the reaction of N1 with chloroacetic acid in the presence of alcoholic potassium hydroxide. The prepared compounds were characterized using physico-chemical and spectroscopic methods such as melting point, infrared spectroscopy (IR) and the proton nuclear magnetic resonance (H-1-NMR). Thereafter, some of the compounds were selected for in vitro antibacterial activity and one of these compounds showed an inhibition effect against gram positive only which is very important because it is considered as specific antibacterial drug.
