Organic pi-conjugated polymers (CPs) have been intensively explored for a variety of critical photocatalytic applications in the past few years. Nevertheless, CPs for efficient CO2 photoreduction have been rarely reported, which is mainly due to the lack of suitable polymers with sufficient solar light harvesting ability, appropriate energy level alignment and good activity and selectivity in multi-electron-transfer photoreduction of CO2 reaction. We report here the rational design and synthesis of two novel triphenylamine (TPA) based conjugated microporous polymers (CMPs), which can efficiently catalyze the reduction of CO2 to CO using water vapor as an electron donor under ambient conditions without adding any co-catalyst. Nearly 100% selectivity and a high CO production rate of 37.15 mu mol h(-1) g(-1) are obtained for OXD-TPA, which is significantly better than that for BP-TPA (0.9 mu mol h(-1) g(-1)) as a result of co-monomer change from biphenyl to 2,5-diphenyl-1,3,4-oxadiazole. This difference could be mainly ascribed to the synergistic effect of a decreased optical band gap, improved interface charge transfer and increased CO2 uptake for OXD-TPA. This contribution is expected to spur further interest in the rational design of porous conjugated polymers for CO2 photoreduction.

This study intends to design and prepare a new magnetic copper catalyst and its activity was assessed by carbon-carbon coupling reactions. For this purpose, 1-[3-(trimethoxysilyl) propyl] urea (TMSPU), hydrazine and CuI were used sequentially to modify Fe3O4@SiO2 core-shell magnetic nanoparticles to obtain an efficient magnetic transition metal catalyst. Various analytical techniques were used to characterize the catalyst to show that the achieved structure and its properties are well-suited for coupling reactions. Finally, Mizoroki-Heck and Ullmann coupling reactions were performed using Fe3O4@SiO2@PrNCu catalyst. The new catalyst offer simple synthetic procedure, convenient use for routine casework and low price. The Fe3O4@SiO2@PrNCu catalyst was easily separated by means of a permanent and ordinary magnet and the recovered catalyst was reused in six cycles without any significant loss of activity. A series of aryl-extended N-monoalkyl-4,4 ‘-bipyridinium salts L (aryl=1,4-phenyl, 4,4 ‘-biphenyl, 2,6-naphthyl and 9,10-anthracenyl) have been implemented by Pd-II/Pt-II-directed self-assembly into constitutionally dynamic systems (CDSs). As a result, the intended processes produced not only (en)M2L2 (en=ethylenediamine) metallacyclic species but also (en)M4L4 ring-in-ring aggregates, in equilibrium with the former, as a consequence of the hydrophobic nature of the aryl rings within the 4,4 ‘-bipyridinium scaffold. The key feature of the obtained dynamic systems is the possibility of modulating their response against external stimuli by modifying the hydrophobic character of the ligand. While the different dynamic libraries follow the same trends upon changes in concentration, temperature, polarity of the medium, or addition of an aromatic chemical effector, subtle changes in the ligand hydrophobic core results in a fine-tuning of the speciation when applying a certain degree of the different stimulus. The preparation of copolymers bearing N-methylcarbazole and 2,7-linked 3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene units has been carried out using the N-methyl-2,7-di(2-(3,4-ethylenedioxythienyl))carbazole monomer, which has been chemically synthesized through the Stille coupling reaction of 2,7-dibromo-N-methylcarbazole and tributyl-stannylated 3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene. Then, the monomer was electropolymerized by chronoamperometry in acetonitrile with 0.1 M LiClO4 under a constant potential of 0.70 V and using steel AISI 316 electrodes. The electrochemical activity and stability, charge-discharge capacity, charge transfer resistance and surface properties (i.e. morphology, topography and wettability) of the resulting polymer have been characterized and compared with those reported for poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene). Finally, the polymer has been obtained by potentiodynamic sweep, applying around 100 cyclic voltammetry steps to an acetonitrile solution of the N-methyl-2,7-di(2-(3,4-ethylenedioxythienyl))carbazole monomer with 0.1 M LiClO4. Results show that although this technique has been mostly used to electropolymerize diheteroaromatic-subtituted carbazoles, the resulting material presents serious disadvantages with respect to that produced by chronoamperometry under a constant potential.

Selective and large-scale synthesis of [8]-cycloparaphenylene (CPP) was achieved in seven steps starting from commercially available 4-bromo-4′-hydroxybiphenyl and 4,4’dibromobiphenyl. Nearly 100% selectivity and a high CO production rate of 37.15 mu mol h(-1) g(-1) are obtained for OXD-TPA, which is significantly better than that for BP-TPA (0.9 mu mol h(-1) g(-1)) as a result of co-monomer change from biphenyl to 2,5-diphenyl-1,3,4-oxadiazole. This difference could be mainly ascribed to the synergistic effect of a decreased optical band gap, improved interface charge transfer and increased CO2 uptake for OXD-TPA. This contribution is expected to spur further interest in the rational design of porous conjugated polymers for CO2 photoreduction.
