An electroactive polytriphenylamine (PTPA-C6) is blended with poly(styrene-co-hydroxystyrene) (PS-co-PHS) as coating layers to enhance protection efficiency of PTPA-C6 on iron substrate in 3.5% sodium chloride (NaCl) solution. Experimental results show that incorporation of hydroxyl group to the polystyrene not only increases the miscibility of PTPA-C6 with PS through the hydrogen bond formation, but also enhances the bonding strength between the polymer coating layer and iron substrate. These improvements lead to superior enhancement in anticorrosion performance of PTPA-C6, even after thermal treatment. Protection efficiency (PE) of PTPA-C6 increases from 81.52% of the PTPA-C6 itself to over 94.40% under different conditions (PEmax = 99.19%).

A novel mechanically stable supramolecular Co(ii)-metallohydrogel has been synthesized. Cobalt(ii) nitrate hexahydrate and monoethanolamine, as a low molecular weight organic gelator, are used to get the gel. The mechanical stability of the supramolecular hydrogel was analyzed. The morphology of the supramolecular metallohydrogel was scrutinized. The semiconducting features of the metallohydrogel were studied. The conducting properties of the Co(ii)-metallohydrogel establish a Schottky barrier diode type nature. The catalytic nature of the Co(ii)-metallohydrogel based room temperature single pot aryl-S coupling reaction was explored. Most interestingly, the Co(ii)-metallohydrogel based catalytic aryl-S coupling reaction does not require any column-chromatographic purification protocol to get pure aryl-thioethers. Thus, through this work a semiconducting Schottky barrier diode application and catalytic role in the room temperature single pot aryl-S coupling reaction of a supramolecular Co(ii)-metallohydrogel have been explored.

I found the field of Materials Science; Physics very interesting. Saw the article In search of efficient solubilizing groups for liquid and luminescent oligo(phenylene-thiophene) chromophores published in 2020. HPLC of Formula: C12H8Br2, Reprint Addresses Luponosov, YN (corresponding author), Russian Acad Sci, Enikolopov Inst Synthet Polymer Mat, Prafsoyuznaya St 70, Moscow 117393, Russia.. The CAS is 92-86-4. Through research, I have a further understanding and discovery of 4,4′-Dibromobiphenyl

In this work, the synthesis of oligomers having a rigid conjugated 4,4 ‘-bis(2-thienyl)biphenyl fragment end-capped with various types of solubilizing groups (SGs), such as either alkyl or alkylsilyl or alkyl-oligodimethylsiloxane, has been reported. The comprehensive study of their thermal and optical properties as well as rheology in comparison to model highly crystalline oligomers with simple either hexyl or trimethylsilyl SGs allowed us to elucidate structure-property correlations and find the most powerful type of SG in terms of liquefaction for them. It was revealed that oligomers with long and branched alkyl SGs still retain high crystallinity, whereas oligomers with alkyl-oligodimethylsiloxane SGs combine very low glass transition temperatures (up to -111 degrees C) with a liquid-crystalline behaviour. The alkylsilyl SGs were found to be the most efficient, since the oligomers end-capped with trihexyl- and tri(2-butyloctyl)silyl SGs are liquid and have low values of both the glass transition temperature (up to -60 degrees C) and viscosity (up to 1.94 Pa s). All the oligomers prepared have similar optical absorption/luminescence spectra and high values of photoluminescence quantum yield in solution (90-95%) without a significant impact of the SG type. In the neat films, the type of SG has a huge impact on the shape and maxima of the absorption and luminescence spectra as well as the photoluminescence efficiency. Among this series of molecules, oligomers with alkylsilyl SGs demonstrate the highest values of photoluminescence quantum yield in the neat form (24-61%) and close to the solution optical characteristics, which indicates their strong capability to suppress aggregation of molecules in the bulk. Thus, for the first time liquid luminescent thiophene/phenylene co-oligomers were reported and the solubilizing capabilities of some of the most promising types of SG were comprehensively investigated and compared to each other. The results obtained can be used as a guideline for the design of functional materials based on conjugated oligomers with a tunable and controllable phase behaviour, solubility and optical properties in the neat state.

Constructing effective photocatalysts with visible light response to achieve rapid dehalogenation of polyhalogenated compounds remains a challenge nowadays. Herein, Pd nanoclusters-decorated TiO2 nanosheets with surface defects (Pd/TNS) are designed for polyhalogenated biphenyls dehalogenation under visible light. Pd/TNS is able to rapidly remove bromine atoms of 4-bromobiphenyl in 30 min. Experimental results reveal that oxygen vacancies and Ti3+ are in-situ generated in TNS during Pd photodeposition, which extend the absorption band edge of Pd/TNS to visible light region. Besides, the unique two-dimensional nanosheets structure of TNS contributes to a high surface area for high dispersion of Pd nanoclusters. Importantly, the Pd nanoclusters serve to activate carbon-halogen bond in polyhalogenated biphenyls and hydrogen-oxygen in H2O. The high dehalogenation efficiency could be assigned to a strong chemical interaction and synergistic effect between the Pd nanoclusters and TiO2(B) nanosheets. Finally, a collaborative mechanism is proposed for photocatalytic dehalogenation of polyhalogenated biphenyls on Pd/TNS.

For the last ten years, ring-shaped pi-conjugated macrocycles possessing radially directed pi-orbitals have been subject to intense research. The electronic properties of these rings are deeply dependent on their size. However, most studies involve the flagship family of nanorings: the cyclo-para-phenylenes. We report herein the synthesis and study of the first examples of cyclofluorenes possessing five constituting fluorene units. The structural, optical and electrochemical properties were elucidated by X-ray crystallography, UV-vis absorption and fluorescence spectroscopy, and cyclic voltammetry. By comparison with a shorter analogue, we show how the electronic properties of [5]-cyclofluorenes are drastically different from those of [4]-cyclofluorenes, highlighting the key role played by the ring size in the cyclofluorene family.

Herein, we report a Ni-catalyzed reductive coupling for the synthesis of benzonitriles from aryl (pseudo)halides and an electrophilic cyanating reagent, 2-methyl-2-phenyl malononitrile (MPMN). MPMN is a bench-stable, carbon-bound electrophilic CN reagent that does not release cyanide under the reaction conditions. A variety of medicinally relevant benzonitriles can be made in good yields. Addition of NaBr to the reaction mixture allows for the use of more challenging aryl electrophiles such as aryl chlorides, tosylates, and triflates. Mechanistic investigations suggest that NaBr plays a role in facilitating oxidative addition with these substrates.

We report a new class of metal-organic framework (MOF) inks with a water-repellent, photocurable fluoropolyrner (PFPE) having up to 90 wt % MOF loading. These MOF inks are enabled to process various MOFs through spray coating, pen writing, stencil printing, and molding at room temperature. Upon UV curing, the hydrophobic PFPE matrix efficiently blocks water permeation but allows accessibility of chemicals into the MOF pores, thereby freeing the MOF to perform its unique function. Moreover, by introducing functional MOFs we successfully demonstrated a water-tolerant chemosensor for a class of aromatic pollutants in water and a chemical-resistant thermosensor for visualizing temperature image. This approach would open up innumerable opportunities for those MOFs that are otherwise dormant.

Developing efficient and wide spectrally acting photocatalysts for light-driven hydrogen production from water is highly desirable for solar energy conversion. Herein, diketopyrrolopyrrole (DPP) is used to combine with triphenylamine (TPA), bipyridyl (bdy), and biphenyl (bph) units for construction of conjugated microporous polymer photocatalysts. Although the synthesized two polymers, DPP-bdy-TPA and DPP-bph-TPA, have a similar framework structure, the former bearing a hydrophilic , bipyridyl unit displays much better photocatalytic performance with hydrogen production rates of 6918 and 2780 mu mol g(-1) h(-1) under a full-arc xenon lamp and visible light (>440 nm) illumination, respectively. Moreover, DPP-bdy-TPA has a wide photoaction spectrum with apparent quantum yields of 9.60% at 420 nm, 7.32% at 500 nm, and 0.31% at 600 nm, the so high values rarely achieved by present-known organic semiconductor photocatalysts. These results undoubtedly prove DPP is an excellent building block, and this work well exemplifies its utilization for construction of high-performance photocatalysts.

The present work demonstrates the operation of a reversible supramolecular gate, i.e., an ensemble of various components linked by chemical communication, which is triggered by stoichiometric chemical inputs and by obeying the AND truth table delivers a stoichiometric chemical signal. The output triggers a series of events that finally set up a catalytic process. In detail, a three-component AND gate, composed of two distinct nanoswitches, a copper-loaded and an unloaded one {= state (0,0)}, was actuated with stoichiometric amounts of two inputs (IN-1 = Zn2+, IN-2 = Hg2+) generating copper(I) ions as output in state (1,1). The utility of this information processing was highlighted by using the copper(I) output for triggering the self-assembly of the four-component rotor ROT-2 through metal translocation. In the presence of suitable reactants, ROT-2 acted as a catalytic machinery catalyzing a click reaction (= signal amplification). Verification of the functioning of the AND gate in a mixture of 12 components was thus accomplished by monitoring formation of the click product. Due to the stoichiometric design, the gate was reset to state (0,0) by adding hexacyclen and reactivated by adding inputs IN-1 and IN-2 alike in the first cycle.
