An electroactive polytriphenylamine (PTPA-C6) is blended with poly(styrene-co-hydroxystyrene) (PS-co-PHS) as coating layers to enhance protection efficiency of PTPA-C6 on iron substrate in 3.5% sodium chloride (NaCl) solution. Experimental results show that incorporation of hydroxyl group to the polystyrene not only increases the miscibility of PTPA-C6 with PS through the hydrogen bond formation, but also enhances the bonding strength between the polymer coating layer and iron substrate. These improvements lead to superior enhancement in anticorrosion performance of PTPA-C6, even after thermal treatment. Protection efficiency (PE) of PTPA-C6 increases from 81.52% of the PTPA-C6 itself to over 94.40% under different conditions (PEmax = 99.19%).

Transition metal catalyzed [3 + 2] annulation of imines with double bonds via directed C-H activation offers a direct access to amino cyclic motifs. However, owing to weak coordination and steric hindrance, trifluoromethylated ketimines have been an unaddressed challenge for TM-catalyzed annulations. Here, a rhenium-catalyzed [3 + 2] annulation of trifluoromethylated ketimines with isocyanates via C(sp(2))-H activation has been disclosed. This approach provides an efficient platform for rapid access to a privileged library of CF3-containing iminoisoindolinones and polyamides by utilizing challenging CF3-ketimines as the annulation component. The capability of gram scale synthesis, the post-functionalization of the cyclization adduct, the derivation of complex natural molecules and the facile synthesis of polyamides highlight a diversity of synthetic potential of the current methodology.

Novel magnetic CoFe2O4-embedded MIL-101(Cr) with tetramethylammonium hydroxide (CoFe2O4/MIL-101T) was prepared through the facile hydrothermal method. Tetramethylammonium hydroxide acts as a template molecule and avoids the recrystallisation of terephthalic acid. The material was applied as the adsorbent in the magnetic solid-phase extraction (MSPE) process coupled with high-performance liquid chromatography to detect the five flame retardants in environmental water samples. Several parameters affecting MSPE efficiency were systematically investigated, such as MIL-101T content, material amount, desorption solvents, adsorption time, solution pH, theoretical maximum enrichment factor (EFmax) and the reusability. Under optimised conditions, good linearities were achieved for five flame retardants with correlation coefficients R-2 > 0.9961. The limits of detections for analytes at the signal-to-noise ratio of three were 0.013-0.071 mu g center dot L-1. This method was applied to the analysis of tap, pond, lake and river waters. The recoveries were in the range of 81.5 +/- 3.2-107.0 +/- 2.3% with the relative standard deviations ranging from 0.11% to 8.66% in four real water samples. The adsorption mechanism was the hydrophobic interaction between the material and the analytes besides pore adsorption action of the material.

The effects of polybrominated biphenyls (PBBs) on human health have previously attracted much attention, but recent studies of PBBs have been focused on BB-153 and a few other congeners. PBB concentrations in serum samples from residents of an area containing an electronic waste dismantling site were determined in this study. The total PBB concentrations (i.e., the sums of the concentrations of the 35 PBB congeners) were 229-1360 ng/g lipid. The BB-153 concentrations were markedly higher in the samples from people living in the electronic waste dismantling area than in samples from people living in a nearby control area. BB-153 was found in all of the samples from the study exposure area but the concentrations were relatively low (0.07-4.70 ng/g lipid). High BB-1 concentrations were found for the first time in serum from people living in both the electronic waste dismantling and control areas. The BB-1 concentrations were 211-1280 ng/g lipid. The retention times of the 35 PBB standards and PCBs (polychlorinated biphenyls) with similar structures were used to predict the retention times of unidentified PBB congeners to allow the PBB distributions in the serum samples to be identified. A total of 26 previously unidentified PBB congeners were identified in the human serum samples. BB-5, BB-35, BB-79, and BB-109 were found in >50% of the samples. The PBB patterns in the serum samples were different from the patterns previously found in serum after a PBB contamination incident in 1973, so the health risks currently posed by PBBs are worth studying. A series of nanostructured organosilicon luminophores (NOLs) composed of a central 1,4-bis(5-phenyl-1,3-oxazol-2-yl)benzene (POPOP) acceptor chromophore and various peripheral p-terphenyl and 2,5-diphenyl-1,3-oxazole donor fragments have been synthesized for the first time using van Leusen reaction and direct palladium-catalyzed C-arylation of oxazole ring. Due to different functionalities of the silicon branching centers, NOLs with different donor-acceptor ratios have been obtained. A catalyst- and metal-free electrochemical hydrodehalogenation of aryl halides is disclosed. Our reaction by a flexible protocol is operated in an undivided cell equipped with an inexpensive graphite rod anode and cathode. Trialkylamines nBu(3)N/Et3N behave as effective reductants and hydrogen atom donors for this electrochemical reductive reaction. Various aryl and heteroaryl bromides worked effectively. The typically less reactive aryl chlorides and fluorides can also be smoothly converted. The utility of our method is demonstrated by detoxification of harmful pesticides and hydrodebromination of a dibrominated biphenyl (analogues of flame-retardants) in gram scale.

Five novel triphenylamine derivatives with two silyl ether protecting groups were readily synthesized and further underwent silyl polycondensation to obtain novel electro-active aromatic polyethers. These polymers exhibited high optical transparency, were colourless, were soluble in many organic solvents, and had useful levels of thermal stability associated with moderately high glass-transition temperatures and char yields. Newly designed dimethylamine-substituted triphenylamine (TPA) derivatives, N,N’-(1,4-phenylene)bis(N-(4-((tert-butyldimethylsilyl)oxy)phenyl)-N ”,N ”-dimethylbenzene-1,4-diamine) (NTPPA-2Si) and N,N’4(1,1′-biphenyl)-4,4′-diyl)bis(N-(4-((tert-butyldimethylsilyl)oxy)pheny1)-N ”,N ”-dimethylbenzene-1,4-diamine) (NTPB-2Si), with silyl ether protecting groups were readily synthesized. The PESs were readily soluble in commonly used laboratory organic solvents and could be solution-cast into tough and amorphous films with moderate levels of glass-transition temperature around 220 degrees C and thermal stability without significant weight loss up to 400 degrees C under nitrogen or air atmosphere. The Nernst equation method was used to explore the number of electrons transferred at each oxidation step of the targeted two monomers. Furthermore, these two anodic electrochromic PESs were introduced into electrochromic devices accompanied with cathodic heptyl viologen (HV), and the resulted devices demonstrated a high coloration contrast and excellent electrochemical stability.
