To a suspension of 5-bromobenzo[d]oxazole (LIX) (10.06 g, 50.8 mmol, 1 eq) in dioxane (200 mL) and water (10 mL) was added potassium (ethenyl)trifluoroborate (8.17 g, 61 mmol, 1.2 eq), cesium carbonate (13.8 g, 101.6 mmol, 2 eq) and tetrakis(triphenylphosphorus) palladium(0) (2.9 g, 2.54 mmol, 0.05 eq). The mixture was stirred at reflux under nitrogen for 5 h. The mixture was then poured onto ice-water (200 mL) and extracted with EtOAc (3¡Á300 mL). The organic phases were combined, dried over anhydrous Na2SO4, filtered and concentrated in vacuo, the residue was purified by chromatography on silica gel (PE:EtOAc=20:1>10:1) to afford 5-vinylbenzo[d]oxazole (LX) (6.11 g, 42.1 mmol, 82.9%) as an oil.
