The most used method to obtain benzoxazoles is the condensation of 2-aminophenol or its derivatives with aldehydes, carboxylic acids, nitriles, isocyanates, and aliphatic amines. Thus, many scientists have remarked on the importance of the synthesis of different benzoxazole derivatives. Conventional heating is a relatively inefficient and slow method to convey energy in orientation to the reaction medium. However, the microwave-assisted heating technique is a more effective interior heating by straight coupling of microwave energy with the molecules. Conclusion: In this review, different studies were presented on the recent details accessible in the microwave-assisted techniques on the synthesis of the benzoxazole ring. Mixed-matrix membrane (MMM) is an effective way to overcome trade-off limitations of conventional polymeric membranes. However, the existence of defect voids at the polymer/filler interface often limits their performance improvement. Similar issues are also present in thermally rearranged polybenzoxazole (TR-PBO)-derived MMMs. To address this challenge, the selection of fillers is of great importance. Herein, a novel organic porous nanosphere (TC-cPSB), which is prepared by the polycondensation of 9,9-bis(4-aminophenyl) fluorene (BAFL) and terephthalaldehyde (TPAL) followed by thermal crosslinking, is chosen to engineer the polymer/filler interface. Benefiting from strong intermolecular interaction (pi-pi stacking and hydrogen bonding), the TC-cPSB nanosphere can well disperse in TR-PBO matrix with a defect-free interface. With an increase in TC-cPSB loading, well-designed MMMs exhibit a significant anti-trade-off’ phenomenon whereby gas permeability and selectivity increase simultaneously, following the trend predicted by the Maxwell model. Compared with TR-PBO membrane, the MMM containing 15 wt% of nanosphere shows an increase of 282% and 217.6% in H-2/CO2 selectivity and H-2 permeability, respectively, which is far beyond 2008 Robeson upper bound.

Intrinsic polyimides (PIs) with high glass transition temperature (T-g), excellent thermal stability, and favorable mechanical properties have been in great demand in recent years with the rapid development of flexible displays. In this work, an interchain-interaction strengthener has been introduced to obtain PIs with improved thermal resistance and stability. Benzimidazole-based diamines imparting rigidity, conjugation, crosslinking, and especially hydrogen bonding have been incorporated into benzoxazole-polyimide. Frequency shifts in the IR bands spectra of C=O and N-H bonds were indicative of strong hydrogen bonding in benzimidazole-incorporating PIs, resulting in an increase in T-g from 333 degrees C to 442 degrees C. Furthermore, because of more extensive hydrogen bonding, PIs containing bis-benzimidazole units exhibited much higher crystallinity and T-g than those containing mono-benzimidazole units. The 5% weight loss temperature (T-d(5)) was above 550 degrees C because of the rigidity of the conjugated structure and the tightly packed state of the polymer chains. T-g and T-d(5) of PIs annealed in air were higher than those of samples annealed in vacuo, whereas the opposite trend was seen in crystallinity and mechanical properties. Finally, we delineated the effects of intermolecular interaction strengthener and annealing atmosphere on the properties of PIs, which may be helpful for the future design of flexible PI substrates.

Honokiol, a natural bioactive neolignan isolated from the bark and leaf of Magnolia officinalis and Magnolia obovata, exhibits many important biological properties. Meanwhile, compounds 7n (FMR = 65.3%), 7p (FMR = 61.5%), and 8c (FMR = 65.3%) demonstrated a greater insecticidal activity against P. xylostella than toosendanin, a well-known botanical insecticide. Additionally, the preliminary structure-activity relationships (SARs) were also discussed. This study indicates that these honokiol derivatives could be used as leads for the further derivation and development of the potential pesticide candidates for crop protection.

To develop novel CNS penetrant HDAC inhibitors, a new series of HDAC inhibitors having benzoheterocycle were designed, synthesized, and biologically evaluated. Among the synthesized compounds, benzothiazole derivative 9b exhibited a remarkable anti-proliferative activity (GI(50) = 2.01 mu M) against SH-SY5Y cancer cell line in a dose and time-dependent manner, better than the reference drug SAHA (GI(50) = 2.90 mu M). Moreover, compound 9b effectively promoted the accumulation of acetylated Histone H3 and alpha-tubulin through inhibition of HDAC1 and HDAC6 enzymes, respectively. HDAC enzyme assay also confirmed that compound 9b efficiently inhibited HDAC1 and HDAC6 isoforms with IC50 values of 84.9 nM and 95.9 nM. Furthermore, compound 9b inhibited colony formation capacity of SH-SY5Y cells, which is considered a hallmark of cell carcinogenesis and metastatic potential. The theoretical prediction, in vitro PAMPA-BBB assay, and in vivo brain pharmacokinetic studies confirmed that compound 9b had much higher BBB permeability than SAHA. In silico docking study demonstrated that compound 9b fitted in the substrate binding pocket of HDAC1 and HDAC6. Taken together, compound 9b provided a novel scaffold for developing CNS penetrant HDAC inhibitors and therapeutic potential for CNS-related diseases.
