Benzothiadiazole (BTD) dyes are an important class of N,S-containing heterocycles that have remarkable optical properties. In this work, two new 2,1,3-benzothiadiazole dyes conjugated with benzothiazole and benzoxazole moieties were synthesized and the optical properties in solutions and in the solid state were investigated. The BTD dyes were synthesized in a single step from cydization of ortho-diamino benzothiazole and ortho-diamino benzoxazole dyes. The photophysical behavior of BTD precursor’s benzoxazole and benzothiazole dyes were also investigated. The dyes present absorption in the UVB (280-315 nm) and UVA (315-400 nm) wavelength and fluorescence in the blue-green visible region. The solvatochromic properties of the dyes were investigated indifferent solvents taking into account the solvent orientation polarizability (Delta f) and E-T (30) polarity solvent parameter. The ground and excited state dipole moments were determined by applying Bakshiev’s and Kawaski-Charnma-Viallet’s formulations. We embarked on a structural optimization campaign aimed at the discovery of novel anti-angiogenesis agents with previously reported imidazole kinase inhibitors as a lead compound. A library of 29 compounds was synthesized. Several title compounds exhibited selective inhibitory activities against vascular endothelial growth factor receptor 2 (VEGFR-2) over epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) kinase; these compounds also displayed selective and potent antiproliferative activity against three cancer cell lines. The newly synthesized compounds were evaluated for anti-angiogenesis activity by chick chorioallantoic membrane (CAM) assay. Among them, 1-(2-(2-chlorophenyl)benzo[d]oxazol-5-yl)-3-(4-(trifluoromethoxy)phenyl)urea (compound 5 n) showed the most potent anti-angiogenesis capacity, efficient cytotoxic activities (in vitro against human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVEC), H1975, A549, and HeLa cell lines, with respective IC50 values of 8.46, 1.40, 7.61, and 0.28 mu m), and an acceptable level of VEGFR-2 kinase inhibition (IC50=0.25 mu m). Molecular docking analysis revealed 5 n to be a type II inhibitor of VEGFR-2 kinase. In general, these results indicate that these 6-arylurea-2-arylbenzoxazole/benzimidazole derivatives are promising inhibitors of VEGFR-2 kinase for potential development into anti-angiogenesis drugs.

We report a new mononuclear molybdenum(iv) complex, (MoOLLSQ)-L-BIS, in which L-SQ (2,4-di-tert-butyl o-semibenzoquinone ligand) has been prepared from the reaction of the o-iminosemibenzoquinone form of a tridentate non-innocent benzoxazole ligand, L-BIS, and MoO2(acac)(2). The crystal structure of (MoOLLSQ)-L-BIS revealed a distorted octahedral geometry around the metal centre, surrounded by one O and two N atoms of L-BIS and two O atoms of L-SQ. The effective magnetic moment (mu(eff)) of (MoOLLSQ)-L-BIS decreased from 2.36 to 0.2 mu(B) in the temperature range of 290 to 2 K, indicating a singlet ground state caused by antiferromagnetic coupling between the metal and ligand centred unpaired electrons. Also, the latter led to the EPR silence of the complex. Cyclic voltammetry (CV) studies indicate both ligand and metal-centered redox processes. A series of hydroxyl-containing poly(ether-imide)s (HPEIs) were prepared by polycondensation of the bis-AHPPF diamine with six kinds of dianhydrides, including 1,2,3,4-cyclobutanetetracarboxylic dianhydride (CBDA), pyromellitic dianhydride (PMDA), 3,3 ‘,4,4 ‘-biphenyl tetracarboxylic diandhydride (BPDA), 3,3 ‘,4,4 ‘-oxydiphthalic anhydride (ODPA), 3,3 ‘,4,4 ‘-benzophenonetetracarboxylic dianhydride (BTDA) and 4,4 ‘-(hexafluoroisopropylidine)diphtalic anhydride (6FDA) followed by thermal imidization. The corresponding thermally rearranged (TR) membranes were obtained by solid state thermal treatment at high temperature under a nitrogen atmosphere. The chemical structure, and physical, thermal and mechanical properties of the HPEI precursors were characterized. The effects of heat treatment temperature and dianhydrides on the gas transport properties of the poly(ether-benzoxazole) (PEBO) membranes were also investigated. It was found that these HPEIs showed excellent thermal and mechanical properties. All the HPEI precursors underwent thermal conversion in a N-2 atmosphere with low rearrangement temperatures. The gas permeabilities of the PEBO membranes increased with the increase of thermal treatment temperature. When HPEI-6FDA was treated at 450 degrees C for 1 h, the H-2, CO2, O-2 and N-2 permeabilities of the membrane reached 239.6, 196.04, 46.41 and 9.25 Barrers coupled with a O-2/N-2 selectivity of 5.02 and a CO2/N-2 selectivity of 21.19. In six TR-PEBOs, PEBO-6FDA exhibited the lowest rearrangement temperature and largest gas permeabilities. Therefore, thermally rearranged membranes from bis-AHPPF-based HPEIs are expected to be promising materials for gas separation.

Light harvesting efficiency of PTPS is 0.9342, which shows that it is having potential applications in the design of new DSSC’s.

The reaction mechanism and the substituent effects of a base-free and catalyst-free synthesis of functionalized dihydrobenzoxazole have been investigated in detail by using the density functional theory (DFT) method. The calculated results reveal that the whole reaction should occur through three processes, and the initial intramolecular nucleophilic attack reaction is the rate-determining step.
