We herein report, a quick and eco-friendly protocol for the synthesis of biaryls by an oxidative (aerobic) homocoupling of arylboronic acids (ABAs) using Pd(OAc)(2) in water extract of pomogranate ash (WEPA) as an efficient agro-waste(bio)-derived aqueous (basic) media. The reactions were executed at ambient aerobic conditions in the absence of external base and ligand to result symmetrical biaryls in excellent yields. The use of renewable media with an effective exploitation of waste, short reaction times, excellent yields of products, easy separation of the products, unnecessating the external base, oxidant, ligand or volatile organic solvents and ambient reaction conditions are the vital insights of the present protocol.

Transition metal catalyzed [3 + 2] annulation of imines with double bonds via directed C-H activation offers a direct access to amino cyclic motifs. However, owing to weak coordination and steric hindrance, trifluoromethylated ketimines have been an unaddressed challenge for TM-catalyzed annulations. Here, a rhenium-catalyzed [3 + 2] annulation of trifluoromethylated ketimines with isocyanates via C(sp(2))-H activation has been disclosed. This approach provides an efficient platform for rapid access to a privileged library of CF3-containing iminoisoindolinones and polyamides by utilizing challenging CF3-ketimines as the annulation component. The capability of gram scale synthesis, the post-functionalization of the cyclization adduct, the derivation of complex natural molecules and the facile synthesis of polyamides highlight a diversity of synthetic potential of the current methodology.

The present work demonstrates the operation of a reversible supramolecular gate, i.e., an ensemble of various components linked by chemical communication, which is triggered by stoichiometric chemical inputs and by obeying the AND truth table delivers a stoichiometric chemical signal. Newly designed dimethylamine-substituted triphenylamine (TPA) derivatives, N,N’-(1,4-phenylene)bis(N-(4-((tert-butyldimethylsilyl)oxy)phenyl)-N ”,N ”-dimethylbenzene-1,4-diamine) (NTPPA-2Si) and N,N’4(1,1′-biphenyl)-4,4′-diyl)bis(N-(4-((tert-butyldimethylsilyl)oxy)pheny1)-N ”,N ”-dimethylbenzene-1,4-diamine) (NTPB-2Si), with silyl ether protecting groups were readily synthesized. The Nernst equation method was used to explore the number of electrons transferred at each oxidation step of the targeted two monomers. Furthermore, these two anodic electrochromic PESs were introduced into electrochromic devices accompanied with cathodic heptyl viologen (HV), and the resulted devices demonstrated a high coloration contrast and excellent electrochemical stability. Yamamoto coupling polymerization has been used for the synthesis of polymeric chiral organocatalysts. Cinchona squaramide derivatives with dibromophenyl moiety were polymerized under the Yamamoto coupling conditions to afford the corresponding chiral polymers in good yields. Using this technique, novel cinchona alkaloid polymers containing the squaramide moiety were designed and successfully synthesized. In addition to the homopolymerization of cinchona squaramide monomers with a dibromophenyl group, achiral comonomers such as dibromobenzene were copolymerized with the cinchona monomers to yield chiral copolymers. These chiral polymers were successfully utilized as polymeric catalysts in asymmetric Michael addition reactions. Good to excellent enantioselectivities were observed for different types of asymmetric Michael reactions. Using the chiral homopolymer catalyst P4, almost perfect diastereoselectivity (>100:1) with 99% ee was obtained for the reaction between methyl 2-oxocyclopentanecarboxylate 25 and trans-beta-nitrostyrene 17. The polymer catalysts developed in this study have robust structures and can be reused several times without a loss in their catalytic activities.

Two high-resolution mass spectrometers (HRMS) with different analyzer technology, Orbitrap and hybrid quadrupole time-of-flight (QTOF), were compared with a low-resolution mass spectrometer, quadrupole, to analyse a set of 35 difficult allergens. These difficult allergens are commonly coeluted fragrance allergens with matrix compounds, using standard gas chromatography-mass spectrometer conditions, from the extended list of the Scientific Committee on Consumer Safety (SCCS). Although the fundamental role of chromatographic separation has been demonstrated many times, the aim of this work is to demonstrate the benefits of high-resolution. The added value of high-resolution was illustrated in both a qualitative and a quantitative way. For qualitative aspect, the high resolution extracted ion signals of these two detectors were compared with the low-resolution extracted ion signals. About 50% of the coeluted cases observed with the low-resolution detector are easily resolved by the two high-resolution detectors. For the quantitative aspect, an accuracy profile methodology and a performance metric were used to propose an overall evaluation. The Orbitrap mass spectrometer demonstrated a better overall performance, while the QTOF presented similar or even lower quantification performances than the quadrupole on the set of analysed fragrances.

We have used functionalized carbazoles and indenoquonoxalines as the main building units and enthynyl groups as the pi-linkages to construct two novel dendritic fluorophores and studied their degenerate multi-photon absorption properties in both the solution phase and the neat-film state within femtosecond and nanosecond regions. In our experiments, these model compounds are found to manifest strong and widely dispersed two-photon absorption as well as effective power-limiting properties against ultra-short laser pulses in the near-IR region.
