In coordination polymer 1, adjacent copper(I) ions were bridged by three independent BBO to form a two-dimensional planar layer framework in which PF6- anion is filled in the hole. Two BBO link Cu(I) ions into a one-dimensional zigzag chain in coordination polymer 2, while acetonitrile as an ancillary ligand distributed on both sides of the one-dimensional chain. Coordination polymer 3 exhibits a single-stranded helix chain structure by two BBO bridging adjacent copper(I) ions. Luminescence properties investigation show that 1 have two emission peaks, which attributed to pi-pi* and n-pi* transitions. However 2 and 3 only had one emission peak, which may be attributed to [MLCT(d(10)(Cu) -> pi*]. This may be due to the synergy of the auxiliary ligands in coordination polymers 2 and 3. In present work, the incorporation of nonrearrangable codiamines (mPDA, DMB or TFMB) with different substituted groups into an ortho-hydroxypolyimide (HPI) precursor was applied to modify the gas separation and mechanical performances of resultant thermally rearranged (TR) polybenzoxazole membranes. Evolution of the thermal rearrangement for ortho-hydroxy copolyimide precursors was effectively monitored by the TGA-FTIR, WAXD and PALS measurements. The present work is devoted to the synthesis and detailed investigation of new 8-benzothiazole containing spiropyrans. The investigated spiropyrans exist under colorless spirocyclic isomers exhibiting positive photochromism with thermo- and photoinduced back reaction. UV light irradiation leads to their effective coloration with quantum yields up to 44%. The efficiency of the back photocyclization induced by visible light does not exceed 0.1%. This feature distinguishes them from the previously studied benzoxazole analogs. The enhancement of electron-withdrawing properties of the indoline fragment substituents promotes an increase in photo-coloration efficiency. The addition of salts of these ions to spiropyran solutions results in the stabilization of the merocyanine in the form of intensely colored complexes. Composition, stability and spectroscopic characteristics of complexes have been investigated depending on the metal ion nature and substituents in ligand molecules. The colored complexes possess negative photochromism. The visible light irradiation causes their bleaching with quantum yields up to 48%. Moreover, we show that the ethynyl tolyl substituent at the para position of the phenol ring is a suitable moiety for an efficient stabilization of the corresponding emissive anionic HBO derivatives in dissociative solvents like DMF THF or EtOH. These observations were confirmed in CH3CN by a basic titration. For all dyes, the nature of the excited-state involved in the fluorescence emission was rationalized using ab initio calculations.

Our theoretical investigation implies that two intramolecular hydrogen bonds (O1H2 center dot center dot center dot N3 or O4H5 center dot center dot center dot O6) of DICH form are strengthening in the first excited state by comparing bond lengths, bond angles, and infrared (IR) spectra, which may facilitate the ESIPT process effectively. Particularly, the changes of O1H2 center dot center dot center dot N3 are bigger than O4H5 center dot center dot center dot O6, which demonstrates that the ESIPT is more likely to happen along with O1H2 center dot center dot center dot N3. Within the framework of MOs analysis, intramolecular charge transfer phenomenon can be found, which could be a reasonable evidence for confirming the occurrence of the ESPT process in the S-1 state. We theoretically construct the potential energy curves for DICH system based on fixing both O1H2 and O4H5 bond lengths and optimizing structures in both S-0 and S-1 states. Through the comparisons of potential barriers among stable configurations, we confirm the S-1-state DICH-PT1 (proton-transfer tautomer along with O1H2 center dot center dot center dot N3) should be the most reasonable configuration ascribed to previous experimental emission peak. Furthermore, we also predict and explain the fluoride-sensing mechanism for DICH system that the deprotonation reaction bringing from fluoride anion inhibits the initial ESIPT process of DICH, which results in the novel changes of ultraviolet-visible (UV-Vis) spectra that plays the roles in fluorescence response. We sincerely hope this work could provide essential insights into the design and function of ESIPT as well as florescence sensor for optoelectronic applications.
