Synthesis, structure, fluorescence, and electrochemical properties of a binuclear Ag(I) complex with 1,4-bis benzo[d]oxazol-2-yl)butane as a ligand

Reaction of 1,4-bis(benzo[d]oxazol-2-yl)butane (BBO) with [Ag(CH3CN)(4)(ClO4)] afforded a new binuclear silver(I) complex, with composition [Ag-2(BBO)(2)(ClO4)(2)], characterized by elemental analysis, UV/Vis and IR spectroscopy, and single-crystal X-ray diffraction. The results show that the Ag(I) complex consists of a centrosymmetric dimetallacyclic structure assembled from two Ag(I) atoms and two bridging BBO ligands. The coordination environment of silver(I) complex can be described as distorted trigonal planar, with one oxygen atom from a perchlorate anion and two nitrogen atoms from two BBO ligands. The luminescence properties of the ligand and the Ag(I) complex were studied in the solid state. The emission peaks of the Ag(I) complex are attributed to ligand-centered transitions. There is no effect of the complexation except for a partial quenching. The cyclic voltammograms of the Ag(I) complex indicated an irreversible Ag+/Ag couple.

Benzoxazole-terminated liquid crystals with high birefringence and large dielectric anisotropy

Six benzoxazole-terminated mesogenic compounds with fluoro substituent at different positions were prepared and their properties investigated. The compounds give a high birefringence (Delta n similar to 0.45) and a large-dielectric anisotropy (Delta epsilon similar to 26), indicating a possible application in liquid-crystal mixture as a dopant to enhance performance of the host mixture. In accordance with conventional high Delta n liquid crystals containing triple carbon-carbon bonds, lateral fluoro substituents and terminal groups can alter the Delta n and Delta epsilon of benzoxazole-terminated liquid crystals. Meanwhile, some parameters such as dipole moment, polarisability, dihedral angles are calculated with density functional theory (DFT) methods to relate to the experimental Delta n and Delta epsilon. It is noted that the introduction of the benzoxazole unit is an effective method to enhance Delta n and Delta epsilon values of the rodlike molecule, this is ascribed to its pi-conjugated benzene-fused heterocycle and large dipole moment. Benzoxazole Derivatives as Promising Antitubercular Agents

Tuberculosis (TB) is an infectious disease caused predominantly by bacillus Mycobacterium tuberculosis (MTB). The increasing prevalence of multidrug-resistant MTB necessitates the discovery and development of alternative drugs against tuberculosis with a new mechanism of action. One-Pot Multicomponent Reaction of Catechols, Ammonium Acetate, and Aldehydes for the Synthesis of Benzoxazole Derivatives Using the Fe(III)-Salen Complex

The Fe(III)-salen complex has been applied successfully as a catalyst for the novel, simple, efficient, and one-pot multicomponent synthesis of benzoxazole derivatives from catechols, ammonium acetate as the nitrogen source, and aldehydes (nontoxic and cheap alternatives of amines) for the first time. Using this procedure, a wide range of benzoxazoles was successfully synthesized in the presence of a catalyst in EtOH under mild conditions, and all products were obtained in excellent yields. To the best of our knowledge, this method is the first example of the multicomponent synthesis of benzoxazole derivatives using these starting materials. The notable features such as the use of air that is considered as a benign oxidant and EtOH as a green solvent, ease of product separation, readily available and inexpensive aldehydes, and mild conditions make our procedure more efficient and practical for organic synthesis. Moreover, the current protocol is successfully applied to synthesize desirable products on a large scale.

Mono- and tetranuclear copper(I) complexes with N-heterocyclic chelating and triphenylphosphine ligands: Crystal structures, luminescent and heterogeneous catalytic properties

N-heterocyclic chelating and triphenylphosphine ligands react with cuprous halide to form a variety of copper(I) complexes, namely, mononuclear [Cu(PBO)(PPh3)Br](CH2Cl2)-C-. Symmetric bis-benzoxazole-based chemicals exerted anti-inflammatory effect on danger signal LPS-stimulated macrophages

Inflammatory responses are generated against the danger molecules under normal conditions but excessive or chronic inflammation leads to tissue degeneration and loss of function. To prevent the disease symptoms associated with the inflammatory disorders or the growth of tumor types that require inflammatory environment, generation of immunomodulatory drugs with suppressive functions have great potentials. In this study, we synthesized new generation of anti-proliferative bis-benzoxazole derivatives and tested their anti-inflammatory and anti-cancer potencies. For this purpose, we used a well-characterized mouse macrophage cell line (RAW 264.7). Furthermore, anti-cancer activity of these compounds were tested using MTT assay on prostate (DU145) and breast (MCF7) cancer cells. The screening results revealed that all compounds possessed a high-level anti-inflammatory potential by reducing the expression of inflammatory cytokines in LPS-stimulated macrophages. There were significant and substantial reductions in the secreted TNF alpha, IL6, and IL1 beta levels by chemically treated LPS-induced macrophages compared to non-treated induced ones. Our compounds exerted their anti-inflammatory effect in a dose-dependent manner and they were biologically active even in low nanomolar range concentrations. Bis-benzoxazole derivatives had anti-proliferative effect on MCF-7 and DU-145 cancer cells. Together, our results present a series of new bis-benzoxazole-based compounds with potential therapeutic effects in inflammatory diseases and on tumor cells.

ZnO-NP assisted synthesis of fluorescent beta-carboline C-1 tethered benzimidazole/benzothiazole/benzoxazole derivatives and assessment of their photophysical properties

A facile transformation of 1-formyl beta-carboline into fluorescent beta-carboline C-1 tethered benzazole derivatives is described under the catalysis of ZnO nanoparticles. The reaction proceeded with the reaction of 1-formyl beta-carboline and substituted o-diaminobenzene/2-aminobenzenethiol/2-aminophenol, which results in formation of a Schiff base, followed by an intramolecular cylization reaction to generate beta-carboline linked benzimidazole, benzothiazole and benzoxazole derivatives. This appraoch displayed a wide substrate scope and high regioselectivity to yield the desired products in moderate to good yields. The photophysical properties of the synthesized derivatives were also evaluated and they exhibited excellent fluorescence properties. Among these beta-carboline substituted azoles, the benzothiazole derivative displayed the maximum quantum yield (phi(F) up to 28%).

Electrochemical sensing of acetaminophen using nanocomposites comprised of cobalt phthalocyanines and multiwalled carbon nanotubes

Herein, we report the fabrication of multiwalled carbon nanotube (MWCNT) conjugates of cobalt phthalocyanines (CoPcs) with peripherally substituted Flavone (flay) or benzoxazole (bo) groups. The CoPc-X-f-MWCNT (X = flay or bo) conjugates were characterized by Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM) and Infrared (IR) spectroscopy. The respective nanocomposite materials were drop-casted onto the surfaces of glassy carbon electrodes (GCEs) and the resultant chemically modified electrodes (CMEs) were used as electrocatalytic detectors for acetaminophen. Under optimized conditions, the peak currents for CoPc-flay-f-MWCNTs- and CoPc-bo-f-MWCNTs- GCEs were linear in wide acetaminophen concentration ranges of 1-1000 mu M and 15-1000 mu M, respectively. Electron transfer kinetics of the CMEs were superior than the bare electrode where diffusion- and convection-controlled electrocatalytic constants in the order of 10(2) and 10(4) M-1 s(-1) were obtained for both the CMEs. The CMEs showed good selectivity for APAP when tested in the presence of other emerging water pollutants. Electrochemical impedance spectroscopic experiments provided an insight into the mechanism of electrocatalysis occurring at the interfaces of the CMEs. (C) 2019 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Heteroleptic [Cu(NN)P-2](+)-type cuprous complexes and their structural modulation on phosphorescent color: Synthesis, structural characterization, properties, and theoretical calculations

Four new heteroleptic [Cu(NN)P-2](+)-type cuprous complexes-1-TPP, 2-POP, 3-Xantphos, and 4-DPPF-were designed and synthesized using a diimine ligand 2-(2 ‘-pyridyl)benzoxazole (2-PBO) and different phosphine ligands (TPP, triphenylphosphine; POP, bis[2-(diphenylphosphino)phenyl]ether; Xantphos, 4,5-bis(diphenylphosphino)-9,9-dimethylxanthene; DPPF, 1,1 ‘-bis(diphenylphosphino)-ferrocene). All complexes were characterized using single-crystal X-ray diffraction, spectroscopic analysis (infrared, UV-Vis.), elemental analysis, and photoluminescence (PL). Single-crystal X-ray diffraction revealed complexes 1-4 as isolated cation complex structures with a tetrahedral CuN2P2 coordination geometry and diverse P-Cu-P angles. Their UV-Vis. absorption spectra exhibited a blue-shift sequence in wavelength with an enlarged P-Cu-P angle from 4 to 2 then to 3 and then to 1. The PL emission peaks of 1-3 also exhibited a similar blue-shift sequence (2 -> 3 -> 1). Their PL lifetime in microseconds (7.5, 5.1, and 4.7 mu s for 1, 2, and 3, respectively) indicated that their PL behavior represents phosphorescence. Time-dependent density functional theory (TD-DFT) calculation and wavefunction analysis revealed that S-1 and T-1 states of 1-3 should be assigned as metal-ligand and ligand-ligand charge-transfer (ML + L’L)CT states. Their UV-Vis. absorption and phosphorescence should be attributed to the charge transfer from the P-Cu-P segment to the 2-PBO ligand. Therefore, as the P-Cu-P angle increased (lower HOMO), the energy of S-1 and T-1 states also increased, following the change of PL color.
