Synergetic Effect of Iron-Doped Acidic Multi-Walled Carbon Nanotubes in the Synthesis of Diverse Substituted Five-Membered Heterocyclic Compounds

Iron-doped acidic multi-walled carbon nanotubes (Fe@acidic-MWCNs) were synthesized using the chemical vapor deposition (CVD) process in the presence of acetylene and ferrocene as the sources of carbon and iron nanoparticles, respectively. The Fe@acidic-MWCNs was fully characterized by inductively coupled plasma (ICP), X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), atomic force microscopy (AFM), Raman, and FT-IR analysis. In continuation, the synergetic effect of iron nanoparticles and acidic groups of the Fe@acidic-MWCNs was studied through the synthesis of substituted five-membered heterocyclic compounds including 2-substituted benzimidazoles, 2-substituted benzothiazoles, 2-substituted benzoxazoles, and 1-substituted tetrazoles. Moreover, the 2-substituted benzimidazoles were investigated by two different methods. In general, Fe@acidic-MWCNs catalyst showed good to excellent catalytic activity. Finally, the Fe@acidic-MWCNs catalyst displayed a high reusability and stability in the synthesis of 3 a, 5 a, 7 a, 9 a, and 11 a.

Spectroscopic Behaviour of Two Novel Azobenzene Fluorescent Dyes and Their Polymeric Blends

Two novel symmetrical bis-azobenzene red dyes ending with electron-withdrawing or donor groups were synthesized. Both chromophores display good solubility, excellent chemical, and thermal stability. The two dyes are fluorescent in solution and in the solid-state. The spectroscopic properties of the neat crystalline solids were compared with those of doped blends of different amorphous matrixes. Blends of non-conductive and of emissive and conductive host polymers were formed to evaluate the potential of the azo dyes as pigments and as fluorophores. Both in absorbance and emission, the doped thin layers have CIE coordinates in the spectral region from yellow to red. The fluorescence quantum yield measured for the brightest emissive blend reaches 57%, a remarkable performance for a steadily fluorescent azo dye. A DFT approach was employed to examine the frontier orbitals of the two dyes.

A new reaction of transformation of the intermediate products of the addition of 1,2-aminoarenols 2a-f to the diferrocenyl-cyclopropenium cation 1 in the positions C(1) and C(2) is found. The characterization of the new compounds was done by IR, H-1- and C-13-NMR spectroscopy, mass-spectrometry, elemental analysis, and X-ray diffraction. Synthesis and Thermal Properties of Wholly Aromatic Poly(benzoxazole)s

A series of aromatic poly(o-hydroxyamide)s (PHAs) were synthesized by the direct polycondensation reaction of 4,4′-(2,3-quinoxalinedioxy) dibenzoic acid and/or 4,4′-(2,3-pyridinedioxy) dibenzoic acid with bis(o-aminophenol) including 2,2-bis-(amino-4-hydroxyphenyl)hexafluoropropane. The PHAs exhibited inherent viscosities in the range of 0.17-0.35 dL/g at 35 degrees C in a DMAc solution. These polymers showed low inherent viscosities and yielded brittle films. All the PHAs showed excellent solubility in aprotic solvents such as DMAc, DMSO, NMP, and DMF at room temperature and in less polar solvents such as pyridine and THF. However, all the PBOs were only partially soluble in H2SO4. The PBOs exhibited 10% weight loss at temperatures in the range of 537-551 degrees C. The maximum weight loss temperature increased with an increase in the content of the quinoxaline-containing monomer. The residue of the PBOs showed a weight loss of 45.8-56.7% at 900 degrees C in a nitrogen atmosphere.

Theoretical and experimental verification of molecular properties of novel benzamide derivatives using computational platforms and in vitro antibacterial activity

A series of N-(benzo[d]oxazol-2-ylcarbamothioyl)-2/4-substituted benzamides were synthesized by the reaction of 2-aminobenzoxazole with apposite benzoyl isothiocyanate. The structure of the newly synthesized compounds was confirmed by chemical tests, elemental (C, H, N, and S), and spectral (IR, H-1 NMR, C-13 NMR, and mass) analysis. All the synthesized compounds were evaluated experimentally for their antibacterial activity against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. The test results show moderate to potent antibacterial activity compared to the standard drug. The binding interactions of newly synthesized ligand and protein were correlated using a molecular docking study using a binding pocket of GlcN-6-P synthase. [GRAPHICS] .

2-Substituted 4H-chromeno[3,4-d]oxazol-4-ones are prepared from 4-hydroxy-3-nitrocoumarin and acids by one-pot reaction in the presence of PPh3 and P2O5 under microwave irradiation or by onepot two-step reactions in the presence of Pd/C and hydrogen and then P2O5 under microwave irradiation. The fused oxazolocoumarins were also synthesized from 3-amido-4-hydroxycoumarins and P2O5 under microwave irradiation. The 3-amido-4-hydroxycoumarins are obtained almost quantitatively from 4-hydroxy-3-nitrocoumarin, acids and PPh3 under microwave irradiation, or in the presence of Pd/C and H-2 on heating. Preliminary biological tests indicate significant inhibition of soybean lipoxygenase and antilipid peroxidation for both oxazolocoumarins and o-hydroxyamidocoumarins.

Preparation and Characterization of Thermally Stable Polybenzoxazole Copolymer Films Fabricated from Their Precursors

The polyhydroxyamide copolymers (F-PHAs) were synthesized by low-temperature solution polycondensation of 2,2-bis(3-amino-4-hydroxyphenyl) hexafluoropropane (BAHHFP) and/or 3,3 ‘-dihydroxybenzidine (DHB) with terephthaloyl chloride (TPC) in N,N-dimethylacetamide (DMAc) with the aid of lithium chloride (LiCl). A series of polybenzoxazole copolymer (F-PBO) films were fabricated via an efficient solution-casting and thermal-treatment technique, using their precursors (F-PHA films) with different BAHHFP fractions (25-100 mol%). The solubility results show that F-PHAs with higher BAHHFP content (>= 75 mol%) are readily soluble in anhydrous DMAc and N-methyl-2-pyrrolidinone (NMP) without LiCl at room temperature. Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) indicates that the thermal cyclization temperature of the F-PHA films decreases with increasing BAHHFP content. Thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) reveals that the F-PHA and F-PBO films are well prepared and completely converted. The UV-visible spectra indicate that the F-75-PBO film (BAHHFP content: 75 mol%) has reasonable transparency, with 84.9 % transmittance at 600 nm and 397-nm UV cut-off wavelength. It also has lower coefficient of thermal expansion (CTE) (48 ppm/degrees C) and water absorption (WA) values (0.14%). The BAHHFP as diamine component provides the final F-PBO film with desirable properties, e.g., flexibility, thermal stability, transparency, and WA values.

Identification of novel 2-benzoxazolinone derivatives with specific inhibitory activity against the HIV-1 nucleocapsid protein

In this report, we present a new benzoxazole derivative endowed with inhibitory activity against the HIV-1 nucleocapsid protein (NC). NC is a 55-residue basic protein with nucleic acid chaperone properties, which has emerged as a novel and potential pharmacological target against HIV-1. In the pursuit of novel NC-inhibitor chemotypes, we performed virtual screening and in vitro biological evaluation of a large library of chemical entities. We found that compounds sharing a benzoxazolinone moiety displayed putative inhibitory properties, which we further investigated by considering a series of chemical analogues. This approach provided valuable information on the structure-activity relationships of these compounds and, in the process, demonstrated that their anti-NC activity could be finely tuned by the addition of specific substituents to the initial benzoxazolinone scaffold.
