The reaction mixture was stirred at 80 degrees C. overnight, filtered through celite and diluted with ethyl acetate. The organic layer was washed with saturated bicarbonate solution and then brine and was dried with MgSO4. The mixture was concentrated and purified on silica gel column (40 g) using a gradient of hexanes and 40% ethyl acetate/hexanes to afford 4-(1,3-benzoxazol-5-yl)benzaldehyde.LC/MS: (M+1) 224.03, 2.20 min (LC/MS Method A).
