ZnO-NP assisted synthesis of fluorescent beta-carboline C-1 tethered benzimidazole/benzothiazole/benzoxazole derivatives and assessment of their photophysical properties

A facile transformation of 1-formyl beta-carboline into fluorescent beta-carboline C-1 tethered benzazole derivatives is described under the catalysis of ZnO nanoparticles. The reaction proceeded with the reaction of 1-formyl beta-carboline and substituted o-diaminobenzene/2-aminobenzenethiol/2-aminophenol, which results in formation of a Schiff base, followed by an intramolecular cylization reaction to generate beta-carboline linked benzimidazole, benzothiazole and benzoxazole derivatives. This appraoch displayed a wide substrate scope and high regioselectivity to yield the desired products in moderate to good yields. The photophysical properties of the synthesized derivatives were also evaluated and they exhibited excellent fluorescence properties. Among these beta-carboline substituted azoles, the benzothiazole derivative displayed the maximum quantum yield (phi(F) up to 28%).

Heteroatom substitution effect on electronic structures, photophysical properties, and excited-state intramolecular proton transfer processes of 3-hydroxyflavone and its analogues: A TD-DFT study

The effects of the electron-donating capacity altered by heteroatom substituents on the electronic structures, photophysical properties, and excited-state intramolecular proton transfer (ESIPT) processes of 3HX analogues (3HF, 3HQ, 3HTF, and 3HSO where X=O, NH, S, and SO2, respectively) have been investigated by both static calculations and dynamic simulations using density functional theory (DFT) and time-dependent DFT (TD-DFT) methods at B3LYP/TZVP level for ground state (S-0) and excited-state (S-1), respectively. The static results indicate that the intramolecular hydrogen bonds of all molecules are strengthened in the S-1 state, confirmed by the red-shift of IR vibrational spectra and the topology analysis. Heteroatom substitutions cause the red-shift on enol absorption and keto emission spectra of 3HX with relatively larger Stoke shift corresponding to their HOMO-LUMO gaps compared with that of 3HF. Frontier molecular orbitals (MOs) show that upon the photoexcitation, the charge redistribution between the proton donor and proton acceptor groups have induced the ESIPT process. Moreover, the potential energy curves (PECs) of proton transfer (PT) processes of all molecules reveal that the PT processes of all molecules are most likely to proceed in the Si state because of low barrier and exothermic reaction. The chance of ESIPT for all molecules is in this order: 3HSO > 3HTF > 3HF > 3HQ. The results of dynamic simulations confirm that the ESIPT processes of all molecules easily occur with the ultrafast time scale (48, 55, 60, 70 fs for 3HSO, 3HTF, 3HF, and 3HQ respectively). Furthermore, the PT time is anti-correlated with the electronegativity of heteroatoms in 3HX, supported by Mulliken analysis. The ESIPT process of 3HSO is the fastest among 3HX in accordance with its highest intramolecular hydrogen bond strength, lowest PT barrier, and highest exothermic reaction. Nevertheless, after the ESIPT is complete, the twisted structure of 3HSO has initiated the conical intersection, leading to no keto emission observed in the experiment. (C) 2019 Elsevier B.V. New pyrimidine-benzoxazole/benzimidazole hybrids: Synthesis, antioxidant, cytotoxic activity, in vitro cyclooxygenase and phospholipase A2-V inhibition

Design, Synthesis, and Anticancer Evaluation of Tetrazole-Fused Benzoxazole Derivatives as Tubulin Binding Agents

A novel series of tetrazole fused benzoxazole derivatives 9a-9j are synthesized, and their structures are characterized by H-1 and C-13 NMR, and mass spectra. Five new heteroleptic zirconium and hafnium complexes were synthesized. Novel high-performance poly(benzoxazole-co-imide) resins with low dielectric constants and superior thermal stabilities derived from thermal rearrangement of ortho-hydroxy polyimide oligomers

Unsatisfied dielectric property and insufficient thermal stability are major obstacles for the commercialization of polyimide resins in the future ultralarge scale integration (ULSI) or radar-wave-transparent composite applications. The incorporation of ortho-hydroxy diamine into a common phenylethynyl terminated oligoimides, aiming to subsequently form additional rigid benzoxazole units by the thermal rearrangement (TR), were prepared. The effects of TR-able codiamine on the processing ability of oligoimides, molecular packing and properties, including thermal stability, dielectric property and bonding ability to reinforcing fibers, for the resulting poly(imide-co-benzoxazole) (PI-co-PBOs) resins have been examined in detail. These thermally rearranged PI-co-PBO resins exhibit reduced dielectric constants of 2.56-3.4 at f = 0.1 GHz, lower than the cured PI with a dielectric constant of 3.55. Meanwhile, the 5 wt% weight loss temperature (T-d5) of the resultant resins increases from 455 degrees C for the cured PI to 491 degrees C for the PI-co-PBO-60 containing 60 mol% benzoxazole unit, and correspondingly, the tensile modulus of PI-co-PBO-60 reaches 2.47 GPa, which is 76% higher than that of the cured PI. These resultant PI-co-PBOs exhibit the combined excellent properties, indicating them a great potentials as the new low-dielectric constant polymer resins in microelectronic industries or advanced composites.

Heteroaromatic rings as linkers for quercetin-based dye-sensitized solar cell applications: a TDDFT investigation

The electronic properties of quercetin (Q)-pi-cyanoacrylic acid (CNA) dye molecules using heteroaromatic rings, namely cyclopentadiene (F1), furan (F2), pyrrole (F3), thiophene (F4), oxazole (F5), imidazole (F6), thiazole (F7), isoindene (FF1), benzofuran (FF2), indole (FF3), benzothiophene (FF4), benzoxazole (FF5), benzimidazole (FF6), and benzothiazole (FF7), as pi-linkers are studied for the first time using Time-Dependent Density Functional Theory (TDDFT) with dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) as solvent to predict their excitation energy, absorption wavelength, oscillator strength, light harvesting efficiency, and exciton binding energy. The charge transfer and charge regeneration in the ground and excited states of the dyes are established. The photon to electron energy transfer from the dye (quercetin) to the semiconductor (TiO2) surface is analyzed based on intramolecular charge transfer. The results of the electron transfer studies on these newly designed dyes could be used to enhance the performance of resulting dye-sensitized solar cells.
