Synthesis of 3-methylbenzo[dloxazol-2 (3H)-one.Sodium hydride (7.00 mmol) was added to a chilled (0 C) solution of benzo[d]oxazol- 2(3H)-one (4.81 mmol) in tetrahydrofuran (20 mL) and the reaction mixture was maintained for 30 min. Methyl iodide (7.25 mmol) was added dropwise and the reaction mixture was maintained for 6 h at rt. The reaction mixture was diluted with with ethanol (10 mL) and the mixture was concentrated. The residue was diluted with water (50 mL) and was extracted with dichloromethane (3 x 20 mL). The combined organic layers were dried (sodium sulfate), filtered and concentrated to afford 3-methylbenzo[d]oxazol-2 (3H)-one in 82% yield as a light red solid
